The Lowdown
San Clemente Palace is on the private island of San Clemente approximately 10 minutes by a free hotel shuttle from St Mark’s Square. The shuttle goes regularly at 30 minute intervals although slightly less in the late evening. The hotel is a former monastery and even has a historic church built in the 12th century where you can get married. There are 190 rooms in the hotel with some overlooking the Venice lagoon. he hotel was originally converted from a monastery into an independent hotel before being completely refurbished to become the Kempinski property that it is now.
The Rooms
The rooms are styled in an elegant classic Venetian style and again have high ceilings. The room had a TV, fast wi-fi, slippers and fluffy bathrobes. The rooms were quiet and the beds very comfortable with high-quality bed linens. Turn down service was done each night with bottles of water and slippers laid out for you.The bathroom was large and quite grand with its beige marble décor. It was very spacious with his and hers sinks, a separate large bath tub and additional shower.
Food and Drink
The property boasts three restaurants.Breakfast can be taken indoors or in the historic courtyard of the Insieme restaurant. The fine buffet and selection of cooked meals is included in the tariff. The fine wine-and-dining restaurant is Acquerello with a view of the Venice skyline, while the more casual La Dolce is set in parklands near the pool. There is also a classy indoor bar, and bar service in various parts of the water front.
Services and Facilities
From the charming staff at reception to the wonderfully helpful Ladies in Red — Kempinski’s trademark ambassadors — the San Clemente staff will go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. Tours, shopping trips, tickets and reservations can be arranged, and cooking and other courses are planned. The scene around the large pool is charming, with white-shaded pavilions on a perfect lawn. There are tennis courts, a mini-golf course, a gym and in-room spa treatments. Conference facilities can accommodate up to 450 people. Weddings can be held in the consecrated 11th-century church, the beautiful 15th-century façade of which is a San Clemente landmark.
